Saturday Round Up

The Development team were in action on Saturday and all attention focused on Egham Cricket Club for a local derby in the league cup against Virginia Water reserves after the 1st team game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Chiddingfold.

The devs wearing the new Manorcroft home kit took the lead through Youth Team debutant Ben Vassell who calmly slotted home a penalty after Jake Streeter had been fouled in the box. Playing some excellent football the devs then added a second as Carl Willis smartly finished from a Jamie Trisnan pass. As the half went on the Lemons created more chances but couldn’t find a third goal and with VW pressing with half time looming they were awarded a penalty after a 5 minute panic period from the hosts. Dylan Thrussell saved the penalty but it was ordered as a re-take by the referee who had said the ‘keeper had come off his line, the re-take was scored leaving the scoreline 2-1 at the break.

The second half started strongly for the hosts and Manorcroft created several half chances before after a fumble from the goalkeeper before flattening Jack Phillips who had looked to mop up the spill seemed destined for a penalty, James Gibbs arrived to pass the loose ball into the empty net whilst Phillips was left flattened in the area! The game seemed to flow from end to end and with 5 to go the visitors scored to make the score 3-2. A nasty knee injury to Youth teamer Dan Fewster with 2 minutes to go dampened the end result as the Lemons hung on for a 3-2 win against a previously unbeaten Virginia Water.
