Youth Team Progress in League Cup

With very few Juniors in action on Sunday (only the u15’s who lost 3-2 in the cup having gone to the game with only 9 players) it was the Youth team who provided the final action of the weekends football on Monday evening as they travelled to Ashford Town in the League Cup.

Manorcroft started strongly and dominated the ball during a first half in which a number of half chances were created, credit to the hosts however as they defended resolutely. In the end the visitors took the lead in this battle of the fruits! The Lemons opening the scoring against the Tangerines as Oscar Syms and Fin Rose-Davies with some nice interchanging football set skipper Alex Franklin on his way down the Manorcroft right, with the advancing goalkeeper Franklin’s cross found last weeks match winner Ben Vassell who coolly headed in past the defender on the line to open the scoring. With the half drawing to a close and with just minutes to go Ashford found a perfectly weighted through ball and Teddy Williams well timed run and finish put the home side level at 1-1, the half would finish all square.

The second half would see the Manorcroft intensity pay off as the visitors continued to dominate the ball finally the pressure became to much and Sam Tipp’s perfectly weighted cross found Vassell who headed in his second of the night. Alex Franklin then added a third, Vassell again involved as he skipped past a number of challenges in the box before squaring for the skipper to score a tap in. That man Fin Rose-Davies then popped up with a fourth after good work from McLaughlin on the right hand side the ball found its way back to F R-D on the edge of the box and he drove home into the bottom left hand corner to seal a place in the next round.

Excitingly their were debuts for Sam Smith and Blendi Tahiri as Manorcroft finished with 3 ‘school boys’ on the pitch in what was another fantastic night under lights.

Final Score: Ashford Town 1-4 Manorcroft United
