Saturday Round Up

30 Sep 2019 by Leon Turner

The 1st and Development teams started the weekends fixtures on Saturday. The 1st team hosted University of Surrey featuring ‘on loan’ Will Brown. A very stop start opening 20 minutes was finally broken as Joe Lynch’s excellent free kick was well saved by the visitors ‘keeper before Reece Gargan followed in on doing well to keep the bouncing ball down and under the bar to put the hosts 1-0 up. The home side controlled the game for large periods and Joe Lynch added a second for Manorcroft as he followed in after good work by Brad Moss on the right hand side.

The second half was something of a quiet 45 minutes with little in the way of goalmouth action, UofS did hit the bar in the second half and Tyler Robinson was twice fouled on his way through one on one with the ‘keeper which on another day might have resulted in at least a free kick! In the end a final score of 2-0 was more than justified for the home side who rarely looked to get out of 2nd gear although the performance left much to be considered and an improvement will need to be made against tougher opposition.

The Devs were away from home with a slightly unbalanced squad as injuries and work hit squad selection hard for the senior section. Connor Young grabbed two and maybe could have had a hat-trick on his return to competitive action whilst the goal machine Kalim Hussain also grabbed more goals as the visitors lead 4-2 at half time. A disappointing second half where the lack of bodies certainly played its part meant in the end they came out on the wrong side of the result although a very strong 1st half should serve as a reminder of how strong both teams look when the availability is there.
